Caprese, Ca-please-e

Today's dinner...looked more like a lunch, I'll admit.

But who says you can't eat sandwiches for dinner? I for one am a huge proponent for eating things at The Wrong Times. I love exploiting IHOP's whole open 24/7 shtick, for instance.

Today, the backstory behind this meal transgression was that I had gone to Coffee Talk in Kaimuki, my favorite coffee shop on the island--for years!--in order to work on my homework in a pleasant environment. Essay writing is just always better with a lavender vanilla latte. My mother, also craving coffee, decided to come along, seeing as neither of us had been there in a hot second.

On a whim, she proposed that we grab two boxes of the cafe's caprese sandwiches, and have those for dinner, since no one felt like cooking. Being a huge caprese fan (it's the one cheese-having food that I'll still eat) I didn't say no. It was a great decision, I'll tell you that. I highly recommend you try for yourself!

Each box comes with a generous helping of balsamic that you can DIY drizzle. It's incredibly viscous and sweet, and feels really high quality. The bread is also next level. As you can see, it's the oh-so-hard-to-find foccacia (my favorite type of bread) and has got a delightfully textured crust. The ingredients are all portioned reasonably, and aren't inconveniently spilling out, like with the sandwiches of places that prioritize the aesthetic of bounty over practicality.

It was a wonderful, quick meal that felt rather healthy (what with the fresh vegetables inside), perfect for a bite before heading off to the campus library in order to study some more.

The grind doesn't stop until ten o'clock, unfortunately.
